An Inexpensive Alternative

Vermont Knit Camp began in 2009 when I was opining along with several other folks on Ravelry about the high cost of various fiber craft retreats and wishing for a less expensive alternative. This led to me investigating group camping prices at a state campground, and so the Summer Retreat was born!

We had so much fun that first year that we didn't want to wait a whole year for another retreat. I looked into to rental prices for a Seyon Lodge (a state-managed B&B) and found them very reasonable, so the Winter Retreat followed six months later.

The winter retreat became so popular that it outgrew the space at Seyon, and for the 2022 retreat, we moved to Highland Lodge in Greensboro, VT.

The Summer Retreat takes place around the first weekend of August and is held at Kettle Pond Campground in the Groton State Forest. There are leantos that provide protection from the elements, and a large group firepit that folks gather around to knit, crochet, or work on other hand crafts through the day and well into the night.

The Winter Retreat takes place around the first weekend of April and is held at Highland Lodge, in Greensboro. We worked with the staff at this bed and breakfast when they were at Seyon Lodge and they are wonderful,. They provide us with fantastic gourmet meals and several cozy sitting rooms (two of which have a fireplace) where we all gather for crafting.
